India Venture Fund (IVF) Scholarship

The Linguistics Department announces a one-time opportunity for students interested in the following research areas:

  • South Asian languages
  • Language archiving
  • Language documentation and conservation
  • Computational linguistics.

Dr. Shobhana Chelliah is planning a research trip for students to India in May 2017. UNT International i.s providing six scholarships of $1000 each to support student travel for this trip under the India Venture Fund (IVF) opportunity.  Students will accompany Dr. Chelliah to a research center in India for three weeks in May 2017 to interact with Indian scholars and students.  Students may sign up for an independent study and complete part of the requirement for the course through activities undertaken during this trip. To qualify for the scholarship you must be a UNT student of good standing with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.  You must have taken courses related to language documentation, archiving, or South Asia.  The scholarships proposals will be judged by the Linguistics Scholarship committee on a holistic basis taking into consideration a one-page essay expressing why you are interested in going to India on the research trip and how this research fits in with your educational or professional goals.
