The CompLing Graduate Academic Certificate is a four-course (12 hour) program in Computational
Linguistics. Computational Linguistics is the foundation on which a large number of
modern technologies is built. This is true for AI language models and language data
analysis techniques. Developing such technologies is a complex process that requires
knowledge from both Linguistics and Computer Science. The graduate certificate program
in Computational Linguistics offers a comprehensive introduction to the foundational
techniques in computational language analysis and natural language processing which
enables students to do computational language data analysis and natural language processing
in a variety of different settings.
Required Courses (these courses need to be taken in sequence):
LING 5040 - Principles of Linguistics
LING 5410 - Foundations of Computational Linguistics
LING 5412 - Advanced Models of Language (or CSCE 5290 Natural Language Processing if approved by an advisor)
LING 5415 - Special Topics in Computational Linguistics
