The Linguistics Department at UNT is very happy to be a NACLO 2025 site!
The North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad (NACLO) is a contest in which high-school students solve puzzles in linguistics, competing against other students from around North America. In the process, students learn about the diversity and consistency of language, while exercising skills in logic.
The contest will be with pencil and paper, and no computer or tech skills are required, nor previous experience in linguistics. The only thing a student needs to bring is a strong interest in working puzzles of logic and language!
The contest is international, and universities across the US, Canada, and Europe host competition sites each year. UNT Linguistics is one such site for North Texas students who wish to compete.
Dates: NACLO 2025 will be on January 23, 2025 (Open Round) and March 13, 2025 (Invitational Round).
Place: University of North Texas, Discovery Park
Practice Sessions: For those who register, there will be 1-2 practice sessions on site at UNT in January before the competition.
Practice problems from previous NACLOs are available on the NACLO web site. It is highly recommended that you work through as many practice problems as possible before attending the competition.
