Lisa Jeon

About Me:

Lisa Jeon is currently a PhD candidate at the Linguistics Department at Rice University. Her research concerns the perception of linguistic variation, the relationship between language, place, and society, and methodological approaches to the study of Perceptual Dialectology. Her research has focused on locations in South Korea and Texas and has examined the intersection of perceived linguistic variation and social factors, migration patterns, demography, and language ideology. Lisa has presented her work at numerous national and international conferences and has published articles in the Texas Linguistic Forum, Rice Working Papers in Linguistics, and Dialectologia. In addition to her PhD studies, Lisa is Program Director of the UNT-International Summer Institute held each summer at UNT, which offers students from around the world the opportunity to increase their English fluency through cultural immersion, social interaction, and hands-on learning. 

UNT-International Summer Institute

     The American Culture & Communication Program (ACCP) and Faculty English Program (FEP) coordinated by the UNT-International Summer Institute gives students and faculty from around the world the opportunity to study and practice English at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. This multi-level ESL program provides summer learning opportunities through language and culture immersion. The mission of the UNT-International Summer Institute is to provide a unique English language program through cultural immersion and experiential learning. This program design promotes fluency through social interaction and engagement with the community of UNT, Denton, and DFW. Our goal is to give participants a unique opportunity to increase English fluency through cultural immersion, social interaction, and hands-on learning.
