Lisa Jeon receives Outstanding Alumni Award!

We are excited to celebrate Dr. Lisa Jeon for receiving the 2023 College of Information Outstanding Alumni Award! Presented by Dr. Tricia Cukor-Avila at the College of Information's 15th Anniversary celebration.

Lisa Jeon’s remarkable journey through academia and her impressive contributions to the field of linguistics and language education are truly deserving of this recognition.
Lisa's academic path began at UNT, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Speech-Language Pathology. She continued her studies at COI by obtaining a master's degree in Linguistics, showcasing her dedication to the study of language. Her commitment to scholarly achievement remained unwavering as she went on to earn a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Rice University, solidifying her status as a prominent figure in the field.
Lisa's research focuses on the perception and production of linguistic variation, exploring the intricate relationship between language, place, and identity. Her work also delves into the innovative use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze linguistic data, demonstrating her commitment to advancing the methodology in linguistics.
Currently, Lisa serves as the Director of Language Programs and Instructor at LanGo Institute, a language school that excels in providing language learning opportunities through immersion, experiential learning, and social engagement. Her role extends beyond teaching linguistics courses, as she also leads engaging summer camps that nurture a love for language and culture.
In addition to her work at LanGo Institute, Lisa generously shares her expertise as an Adjunct Professor for the Departments of Linguistics at both UNT and UT Arlington. Her commitment to educating future linguists and language enthusiasts is evident in her dedication to teaching and mentoring students.
Lisa's impact transcends the classroom. She has been an active member of COI's College Leadership Board, contributing valuable insights to the college's success. Furthermore, she has shown her commitment by supporting the Haj Ross Squibber Scholarship, providing much-needed financial assistance to aspiring linguistics students. Lisa's language school, LanGo Institute, serves as a practical learning ground, offering valuable practicum opportunities for students to enhance their skills and gain real-world insights into language education.
Lisa Jeon's unwavering support for the college and her dedication to the success of its students have earned her the COI 2023 Outstanding Alumni award. Her contributions to the fields of linguistics and language education are commendable, and her passion for sharing knowledge and promoting language learning is truly inspiring.
